Will joined the group in 2016 after graduating from the University of Sheffield with a first class Master’s degree in mechanical engineering. Will is sponsored by the Rail safety and Standards Board (RSSB) and the EPSRC to conduct research into the effects of sanding on the wheel/rail interface. As part of this project he is looking to identify key particle characteristics and optimise the traction enhancing performance of sanding.
Tom obtained a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Sheffield Hallam University in 2017. Since then he has joined the Integrated Tribology CDT at the University of Sheffield. The topic for his PhD project will be impact of different types of leaves on the rail-wheel interface, and whether there a more accurate model can be made to predict these effects.
Andy joined the group in 2013 after successfully completing his degree in Mechanical Engineering. He is sponsored by Network Rail and a University of Sheffield / EPSRC Doctoral Training Grant, and is working on rail-wheel interface adhesion and rolling contact fatigue.
